Glazed Muse: Charlie Ann Max
This month, we’re excited to feature Charlie Ann Max—an LA-based multidisciplinary artist, chef, and founder of Füde. Charlie is not only a dear friend and long-time supporter but also a visionary whose ethos is rooted in connecting people to their purest selves. Through plant-based cooking, art, nudity, and self-care on the deepest levels, Charlie has created a revolutionary space for healing and liberation. Her teachings on mindfulness through food and energy have been invaluable, and it's been a privilege to witness and partake in her journey as Füde continues to flourish. Now let’s get into our chat with the inimitable and multifaceted Charlie Ann Max ⊹ ࣪ ˖

Could you share what initially inspired your journey in the creative space?
My inspiration stems from my parents, who made sure we were creating as soon as our hands could hold a paintbrush or a guitar. I come from a very artistic and musical family, and I’m endlessly grateful to them for always encouraging me to create and for being consistently supportive of all my creative endeavors.
How do you believe your work stands out, and which creators have influenced your style or approach?
I believe my work, like anyone’s, stands out because it’s deeply personal and specific to my story. My passion lies in connecting to the deepest aspects of myself, in exploring self-discovery to find safety within and sharing that with community.
I am profoundly inspired by Martha Graham, a pioneering dancer and choreographer known for her emphasis on emotional expression and vulnerability through movement, as well as her meticulous attention to detail and collaborative, holistic approach to the entire production. Chef Jeong Kwan’s mindfulness and intentionality in preparing food resonates with my own approach to mindful cooking. Marina Abramović, has greatly influenced my work and dedication to pushing personal limits. RuPaul’s playfulness and embrace of authenticity inspire me to celebrate individuality and self-expression.
What is a significant challenge you've faced in your process and how have you grown from it?
Growing up, I always struggled with body image and confidence. I found outlets like practicing nudity and modeling that challenged me and led me to find courage. Much of my work features nudity, embracing authentic expression. I dove deep into this because it empowered me and gave me the courage to embrace confidence and self-acceptance. I echo this in my work, specifically with my project Füde, where everyone who attends has the opportunity to experience the empowerment and self-acceptance I’ve found.
How do you engage in collaboration and stay innovative in your endeavors?
I thrive on working with friends and remain open to others' perspectives. Each individual brings a diverse and unique life experience, and with a shared goal or interest, collaboration becomes truly enriching and fulfilling. I am a strong advocate of collaboration—let’s support each other and grow together.
What advice would you give the young visionaries looking to establish themselves in the industry?
Follow your passions and share your creations even before they’re perfect. Embracing imperfection as a part of growth is crucial—perfection isn’t necessary, and you’ll learn and improve along the way. Taking action allows your work to be seen and helps you evolve as you continue to grow.
Where do you see yourself heading in the next few years?
Probably still in LA, In a house with a garden continuing to create, surrounded by love and family.

Started by Ethan James Green in 2022, New York Life Gallery is all about bringing artists together and showcasing a wide range of works, from emerging talents to hidden gems from the 20th century. It's an artist-run space that's really focused on building a community and sparking cultural conversations. 100% our vibe.
Their latest show, "Salon," was an expansive synthesis of New York Life Gallery's collection, combining new works with highlights from previous shows to illustrate the cohesive curatorial vision that connects each vastly different artist in the installation. Salon drew upon historical and social etymology. The gallery functioned as a literal salon—a social gathering spot with a program of events intended to stimulate cultural conversation and offer creatives a meeting place to exchange ideas. Some of the works that were hung salon style across the walls of the gallery featured artists like Steven Cuffie, Daniel Arnold, Drake Carr and many more. Definitely keep an eye out for their next show - they also have a beautifully curated store of publications by their featured artists both online and at their Chinatown location that is *chef’s kiss*
Cold Spring Summer Film Series
The Cold Spring Film Society is a non-profit in Cold Spring, NY that brings the community together by curating an outdoor theatre that features some of the greatest films of all time. Their Summer Film Series is perfect for a low-lift, fun and *free* night out if you need a quick nature break + it’s only about an hour away by Metro-North or driving. Before you park your lawn chairs, there are some super cute local vendors and hiking trails nearby to explore. They also team up with places like Butterfield Library and Boscobel House to host film events and programs throughout the year. Highly recommend enjoying this perfect little getaway before summer ends.
